JULIUS CAESAR is the newest project for which we are about to begin, English 10 students. It will be quite a different adventure from our research paper. Within the play, there are many memorable lines. The one above is just an example. Some will say Caesar was stubborn and greedy. Others will say he was positively powerful. Based off of the above quote, which do you think he might have been? What type of TONE does this quote seem to take? When in your life do you feel this quotation (for good or bad) has applied to you.
Assignment (10 points): Respond to the above QUESTIONS in clean sentence structures. Think about your content as well as your grammar. Your answers will most likely be 3-5 sentences in length.
This is NOT bonus. It is an assignment. Complete it for Monday, April 8th.
The quote makes me think that Caesar is positively powerful. The quote seems to me that even though he is powerful, he knows his strengths. It seems that he knows when and when not to use his powers. He is above all and is given powers to make him elite compared to others. The quote sets the tone as if he is a strong but wise leader. He knows he is powerful, and he realizes his strengths, but he is careful to not take advantage of them. When getting the class high on a quiz/test, this quote may apply to me. I might feel powerful or superior to others, but I have to be careful not to brag about what I was given.
ReplyDeleteThe quote makes me think that Caesar does see himself as powerful and indomitable in his struggles, which I could agree with. Also though it does make me think that he has a giant ego , but he has the skill to back it up. He could also be seen as stubborn or greedy, but my guess would be that it depends on the situation to get a good insight on Caesar. The last thing I will say is that he does stand among the elite so he can have a big ego since he can back it up with his skill.
ReplyDeleteFrom what he said in the quote, I believe that he is positive with power. He seems to have enough power to make some afraid of him. This quote applies to me when I go hunting. I feel very superior. Caesar was also a very superior man who could overpower pretty much anything he wanted to.

I can be like Caesars quote if I get something wrong and wanted a better grade. I can be greedy and want better when that is what i earned and deserved.

The quote makes him sound like he is positive with power. He knows his limits and knows that he intimidates many others with his power. I can relate to his quote when I go fishing because I am more powerful than the fish and I intimidate the fish because of it.
ReplyDeleteThe quote makes Caesar seem greedy. The quote sounds like he thinks he is the best and stays the best. He is comparing himself to something elite that is constant and doesn't change. I can relate to this quote when I get an A on homework, which makes me want an A on every homework assignment. Nobody can constantly get an A on every homework assignment, it just isn't possible. Nobody can be the best they can be all the time.

This quote makes it seem as if his opinion is straight and not "wishy washy", or mysterious. Many people look to the north star and follow it. I think he wants people to have the same view on him, as they would on the star.

From the quote up above, I believe that Caeser is positively powerful. It shows that he is not only confident in himself but he is steadfast and persistant in himself. The tone of the quote takes more of a serious but playful approach. I can relate to his quote when I am persistant in school with my grades. I am constant in the effort I put into things and I am not greedy with the outcome if I wasn't the one putting in the full effort to deserve a good grade.

I love it that you can identify in yourself when you have not put full effort into something. We all have those days; we should not blame their outcomes on someone else, though.

When I was little there were many times I thought or tried to be better than everyone else, but it never turned out too good.
Caesar is an interesting character. He starts out with such good ideas. What makes a person go so far away from good ideas? Being better than anyone does not usually work out for the best. Someone loses out when that happens. Some times it is the other person...some times it is you.

Personally I feel positively powerful when I accomplish something on my own, and others become proud of me!

Caesar was positive a great portion of the time. Something in his leadership changed, though. We will see how you feel as the play progresses.

In the above quote I think that Caesar was positively powerful because he had so many people that were under his rule and that he was over confident that he would not be overruled. Later in his life he had coins made with his face on them and started to abuse his power. I feel like this when I am walking. I feel like I am in charge of life at that point. It makes me feel powerful.

The tone kind of seems mixed; it seems like some people liked him and others did not. I could feel like that in baseball, such as, when i beat out a ground ball to an infielder. My teamates like it, but the opposing team hates it.
ReplyDeleteNo matter what one's position is, someone will always be mad. In your baseball situation, it is a competition and you have to help your team. It would be another situation if your team felt you were playing against them, which is eventually how the Romans felt about Caesar.

The quote sets a tone of being superior for so long that Caesar craves more and more power. I feel superior to others when I get the class high on a test/ quiz but if I get a couple wrong, I would like to get a better score.
ReplyDeleteCaesar did not initially few himself as superior to others. That changed as he changed, whether it due to his increased power or his new beliefs in how Rome was to be led. I can understand your desire to be a class high on tests or scores. You know others are looking at that information, too. Always challenge yourself, but do so for balanced reasons.
DeleteAfter reading the quote from Caesar, I can come to the conclusion that Caesar was a positive and powerful icon, and he was aware that he was capable of becoming more and more superior. He maybe even let that power turn into greed and pride a little bit. I feel like this quote somewhat applies to school work, tests, or just anything that a person has to work hard to accomplish. For example, sometimes when I get an A- or B+, I know that I did well, but at the same time, I'm a little disappointed. It would have been even better to get that 100%.

I feel that in this quote Caesar is positively positive. He has his strengths and he knows what he can bring with them. He seems to be positive with himself in all things. He also seems to be confident in himself and everything he does or says. I feel confident and postive in myself and my actions when I score well on a test. I also feel this way when I solve a hard problem or when I help others solve tough problems.

DeleteFrom the above quote I feel Caesar is positively powerful. He sees himself as an elite leader that is able to guide people just through his words. His tone seems like he knows he is a leader and can influence people, yet at the same time he is not overly expressing his power in a selfish way. I feel this same way when someone is having a bad day and I am able to help them through it.

DeleteAfter reading the quote I realized that Caesar is very positive. The tone was very greedy. The life situation that is related to the quote is when you want to get a 100% on tests, quizzes, homework and anything like that but you can't get a perfect gade on everything you do.

DeleteThe second sentence is a fragment, but I like the idea toward which you are working. We can't be perfect, as much as we try. Being the North Star is a bit much in request.
I think that this quote shows that he is greedy for power. He is saying that he is just like the North Star meaning he is great and the only thing that is constant. This quote reminds me of school life like homework and quizzes.

DeleteI think he is greedy. He is saying he is THE NORTHERN STAR saying he shines bright and is amazing and will never change he will be constantly like this. I see this in work that you constantly have to work to make money to live and achieve certain goals.

I think he is positive and confident. He knows that his work is amazing, like the Northern Star. He sees himself as a great thing, which he has every right to.

By this statement I feel that Ceasar is confident in himself and his abilities. Although I don't know whether it is the good kind of self confidence or being rude by thinking that he is better than everyone else. I want to be confident when I am playing sports but not overly confident or rude.
ReplyDeleteYou have hit the nail on the head...It was great that Caesar had confidence. However, there were many times in his leadership that he became rude, like a dictator-rude. It caused his demise. In sports, you have to be confident and aggressive. It is a fine balance, however, to show sportsmanship and aggression!

Self-confidence is very important and to be a successful ruler, you need to show everyone that you know you are the best. This applies to me whenever I dance or perform in front of people; if you believe you can do well, you will!

With this quote he seems to think quite highly of himself, he had way too much power. He thinks the world revolves around him, and people bought it, which added to his ego. The tone would be him thinking he is almighty and brave. This has never really applied to myself, I don't think I am better than anyone. We all have imperfections and flaws, why would I say that I am high as mighty when one person has the same amount of power as me?

It makes him sound like he is very self confident but deep down I think he is saying that just to make him sound like he is alright when maybe he is also struggling in his life. This revolves around me because I act confident but deep down there is always a thing bothering me.
